Champex to Le Châble

We woke up to another beautiful day to hike - this is a photo of Champex Lac which was right across the street from our hotel.

Several of us didn’t have the best night sleep - probably due to a delicious, but very rich “half board” that we ate right before we went to sleep. But in spite of that we were in good spirits because we knew that today our hike would be easier.

Essentially, we started our day with a moderate descent into a beautiful valley which we hiked along the entire morning.

We still were stopping today for some foot care - in fact my feet (Betsy) are a perfect example of why you should NEVER hike in boots that are not broken in. I will be most likely losing at least one big toenail as a result of doing some punishing descents in boots I bought two days previously.

By lunch, we had reached the village of Sembrancher and we felt like we had stepped back in time.

We did a combo of eating some food we had brought for lunch as well as stopping at a cafe for some coffee and beer.

One of the other items that we don’t have due to not getting our packs is our classic guide to the Haute Route. However, luckily Kevin and Greg both had loaded the entire hike on MapsMe - an app that uses GPS to show your location. Here they are conferring about our direction. The MapsMe has been invaluable!

We arrived at Le Châble at about 3:30 which was a welcome change from the previous two days. We got settled in our rooms and washed our clothes. Then we had another delicious “half board” for dinner.

We’re all looking forward to our rest day tomorrow which means we don’t have to set an alarm. 👍
